The Special Commodity Levy on potatoes was reduced to Rs 25 a kilo with effect from yesterday (Dec 25), the Finance Ministry said.
Issuing a statement, the ministry noted that this decision had been made by the Cabinet Cost-of-Living Sub-Committee appointed under the new government.
The commodity levy for potatoes stood at Rs 50 per kilo prior to the reduction.
However, the finance ministry explained that the rate had been revised after taking into consideration the soaring prices of vegetables in the market.
