The Special High Court has rejected preliminary objections filed by Gotabhaya Rajapaksa who questioned its jurisdiction to hear the D.A. Rajapaksa memorial museum case.
Former Defence Secretary Rajapaksa and seven others have been accused of misappropriating state-funds worth Rs 33.9 million in the construction of the said museum.
Last month, President's Counsel Romesh de Silva representing Mr. Rajapaksa had filed a preliminary objection claiming that the Special High Court was not vested with the powers to hear the case.
However, the Attorney General represented by Assistant Solicitor General Dileep Peiris had filed counter objections claiming that the Special High Court could continue to hear the case.
The suspects have been charged with seven counts that were in breach of the Public Property Act and the Penal Code.
