Sri Lanka, upon inking an agreement with Saudi officials, has been permitted to send a quota of 3500 pilgirms annually to perform the annual Haj pilgrimage.
The agreement had been reached between the Haj Committee appointed by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and members of the Saudi government recently.
Marjan Azmi, who led the Haj Committee, signed the agreement on behalf of the Prime Minister with Saudi's Haj and Umrah Deputy Minister Dr. Abdul Sulaiman Mashat.
Previously, Sri Lanka had been entitled to send 2850 pilgrims to perform the religious piligrimage.
