No decisions has been taken to slash the Samurdhi Allowance of some Samurdhi beneficiaries Cabinet Media Spokesman Gayantha Karunathilake said.
He added that the public are heaving a wrong impression about the situation due to inaccurate reports .
“ President Maithripala Sirisena at the Cabinet stated that the government has not yet decided to cut down or cancel any allowance who are dependent on Samurdhi, he said.
Meanwhile Co Cabinet Spokesman Dr Rajitha Senaratne said that discussions were made to ensure that no changers made to the allowance scheme immediately.
He explained that the Ministry of Social Empowerment , Welfare and Kandyan Heritage have issued a questionnaire based on their computerized details on Samurdhi benefiters to see whether the allowance could be increased or decreased.
Dr Senaratne added that during the meeting the discussions came to an end with a policy decision that the allowance of people enlisted as beneficiaries to be left unchanged while people yet unidentified as Samurdhi to also receive increase allowance .
“Such decision’s have to be taken by a long term study and must be devised methodically, other than relying on the computerized data relived by the questionnaire” he said.
