Three persons were arrested yesterday (Dec 5) for attempting to sell expired buckets of paint by displaying fake labelling, the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) said.
The suspects had been apprehended following a raid at a warehouse by the CAA and the Police in Wellampitiya last afternoon.
The CAA said that some expired paint cans estimated to be worth around Rs 6 million had been stored at the warehouse in a bid to be sold during the upcoming festive season under fake labels.
It is believed that the suspects had bought the paint cans at Rs 25 a litre before selling them at Rs 350 after relabelling.
Further investigations are underway.
