Three persons including the administrator of a WhatsApp group which shared extremist content, were arrested last evening, police said.
The suspects aged between 20 - 23 were members of a WhatsApp group named 'Dharga town Breaking News' which comprised 100 members.
According to the police, 25 members had left the group today (May 26) following the arrests which were carried out yesterday.
Investigations have revealed that the administrator of the group was a 23-year old resident of Lotus Road, Dharga Town. He is said to have arrived in Sri Lanka after being employed overseas.
The other two suspects were identified as a resident of Matugama Road, Dharga Town and a 20-year old resident of Lotus Road in the area,
The WhatsApp group had been functioning for three years, police noted adding that the suspects have been detained for three days for questioning.
