Three suspects arrested over murder and robbery
Three suspects who allegedly killed an 80-year-old woman and robbed gold jewelry from her home have been arrested.
The suspects had allegedly gained entry to the victim's house in Mirihana, Nugegoda on March 3 and allegedly strangled her to death before making off with gold jewelry inside the house.
Officers from the Western Province South Special Crime Investigation Unit, who were investigating the crime, arrested the suspects last afternoon from Hokandara.
The suspects, aged 20, 23 and 30 years, are residents of Nugegoda and Kotte. Police also recovered a mobile phone and a pair of gold earrings that had allegedly been stolen from the victim's house in the suspect's possession. The suspects are due to be produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate's Court.
