Trains strike continues

News

The strike action launched by railway trade unions over salary anomalies on Wednesday (Sept 25) is still continuing.

However, the Railway Control Room stated that eight office trains were deployed to Colombo Fort this morning.

Accordingly, eight office trains have already commenced plying from Kandy, Mahawa, Chilaw, Galle and Avissawella to Colombo Fort.

The Ministry of Finance recently announced that it would increase the minimum salary of state employees by Rs 3000. However, the Railway Trade Unions say that the minimum salary of railway employees has been increased by only Rs 1,900.

If the demands continue to be unsuccessfully resolved, the unions have said they would continue indefinitely with the strike, Secretary, Railway Engine Drivers Union, Indika Dodangoda said.
