Two suspects who were arrested for spreading false information that the water supply was contaminated in certain areas were remanded until May 17 following a court hearing today (Apr 03).
Modara Police had arrested the two individuals over allegedly spreading false information using loudspeakers on the supply of contaminated water to the Bloemendhal area.
During today's hearing before the Colombo Chief Magistrates court, Police said that the suspects had violated the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights by attempting cause disunity among the people.
Accordingly, Additional Chief Magistrate Lochana Abeywickrema had ordered the suspects to be remanded until May 17.
