The Urban Development Authority (UDA) has appointed 100 special officers to monitor illegal constructions across the country.
The appointments were made after a UDA survey revealed that there were over 10,000 illegal constructions in the Western Province alone.
These officers will identify illegal constructions by conducting inspections across the country, UDA officials said adding that an amnesty period will be granted to remove an unauthorised construction.
The time frame for the amnesty period would depend on the time required to remove the illegal construction, officials noted.
If measures are not taken to remove such constructions within the alloted time period, the UDA would take measures to move court and have the structures demolished.
