A final year university student is among five suspects taken into custody for spreading false content on COVID-19 on social media, police stated today.
The university student had spread a false story on Facebook claiming that the hospital of the Kotelawala Defence University had been set aside to treat VIP patients who contract COVID-19, Police Spokesman SP Jaliya Senaratne told a media briefing.
The suspect, who was arrested by the CID, was remanded until April 9 after being produced before the Colombo Additional Magistrate.
