Will hold PC elections soon - Susil
The Government under President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa hopes to hold Provincial Council (PC) Elections within 2-3 months, newly appointed Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs and Justice, Susil Premajayantha said today (8).
Addressing a media briefing at the Prime Minister's office today, Minister Premajayantha pointed out six Provincial Councils had been dissolved already while the term of two others are set to end early next year.
He noted that six PC have already been dissolved, though no elections have been held. "Where's the democracy in that?" he queried, adding that the Government was determined to go ahead and hold elections to all the PCs within the next few months. He insisted that problems regarding delimitation that the previous Government had cited were flimsy at best and only underscored its "inability."
