The cabinet had approved establishing an authority to regulate gambling.
During the cabinet meeting held on Monday it was decided to establish the Gambling regulation authority as an independent establishment with a broad and complete subject arena to standardize gambling institutions, minimize social damage, promote tourism and ensure economic growth.
The legal draftsman had informed that the concurrence of the current cabinet ministers is sought to continue the process of drafting bills, as a result the cabinet had approved the proposal made by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake as in his capacity as the Minister of Finance. Plan Implementation and Economic Development to grant the policy approval of the cabinet for formulating the said draft bill with immediate effect.
Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe said today he wholly rejects the Batalanda Commission report and that it was appointed wholly with the intention slinging political mud at him.
