Wildlife officials have launched a search for an elephant who sustained injuries in a road accident on the Habarana – Maradankadawala road and escaped into the jungle, today morning.
The elephant running across the road was hit by a speeding truck and in the process the elephant lost one of its tusks.
The elephant sustained injuries and had been running into the jungle.
Wildlife officials said they were trying to locate the animal to be treated.
The suspected truck driver who had knocked down the elephant have been remanded until March 21,2025
