Galle town, which is normally bustling with people on a Sunday, was all but deserted yesterday (25) despite the area not being under a quarantine curfew.
Shops in town were closed and only a few passengers were seen waiting for buses at the main bus stand in Galle town.
Though a quarantine curfew is not in effect within the Galle Municipal Council limits, members of the public have been avoiding visiting the town after health authorities informed them not to leave their homes unless on an essential matter.
Officers from the Galle police too had visited business establishments in the town during the past two days and briefed their owners on the health guidelines that should be followed.
