Field athlete Sarangi de Silva created a new Sri Lanka record in Women's Long Jump, when she achieved 6.44 metres at the International Athletic Meet held in Istanbul, Turkey on Wednesday (23).
De Silva, currently based in Doha, Qatar for a residential training programme, claimed her achievement as part of her programme.
She also won the gold medal at the South Asian Games held in Kathmandu in Nepal in 2019 by achieving 6.38 metres and her leap on Wednesday proved a clear improvement from her last.
De Silva broke the record of 6.43 metres established by T.N.D. Priyadarshani in 2015.
She is currently training under Y.K. Kularatne, who is also the present national athletic coach.
