The Lankan Premiere League(LPL) inaugural player auctions will be held today(14) at the Shangrila Hotel, Colombo. This year being the fourth edition of this tournament is set to reach a new height with the inaugural player auctions taking place.
A total of 360 capped and uncapped players are registered to be selected in the auctions. Among the registered players, there are a total of 204 domestic players and 156 overseas players.
The fourth edition of LPL is set to kick off on 31 July and is set to end on 22 August. Five teams named Jaffna Kings, Dambulla Aura, Colombo Strikers, Kandy Falcons and Galle Gladiators will be fighting for the trophy.
During the auction, each franchise must select at least 16 players, including four foreign players, as each franchise has already signed two overseas players and two Sri Lankan players. In addition, each franchise will be required to select one under-21 Sri Lankan player at the auction.
The auction will feature a total purse of $ 2.5 million from all five franchise teams, with each franchise earning $ 500,000. The teams must ensure that they invest at least 85% of the money brought into the auction to form their respective squads.
Charu Sharma, who was part of the previous LPL player drafts, will be the auctioneer of the Lanka Premier League Player Auction 2023.
