Maris Stella College Negombo and Walala A. Ratnayaka Central College clinched the Boy's and Girls’ overall titles respectively at the 32nd All-Island Schools’ Games Athletic Championship Meet ended at the Bogambara ground in Kandy on Monday (17).
Maris Stella College finished off with 100 points overall ahead of St. Benedict’s College, who claimed 87 points and St. Mary’s College Chilaw, who collected 46 points, to finish second and third respectively.
In the Girls segment Walala A. Ratnayaka accumulated 150 points to remain unchallenged as Sumana Balika Vidyalaya Ratnapura (64 points) and Ambagamuwa Maha Vidyalaya (58 points) finished overall second and third respectively.
Overall 14 new meet records were renewed in the five-day athletic meet which saw Ridma Nishadi of Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda become the top performer.
Nishadi set the Under-19 Long Jump record with an achievement of 5.85metres erasing the previous record which was set 20 years ago.
However Chamal Kumara of D.S. Senanayake Central College Meerigama and Hashini Probodha of Holy Family Convent Wennappuwa were named the Best Athletes in Boy's and Girls' categories respectively.
Kumara set a new meet record in the Boy's Under-19 Triple Jump with an achievement of 15.52 metres while Probodha claimed the Girls' Under-19 Triple Jump win.
