A contingent of three junior athletes and two officials left to Poland on Saturday (16) to take part in the 16th World Junior Under-20 Athletic Championship.
The championships will be held from Tuesday (19) to Sunday (24) in Bydgozcz, Poland.
Conducted by the International Association of Athletic Federation (IAAF), a total number 1600 athletes from 175 countries will compete in this world event.
The championship will be conducted in 44 track and field events.
Sri Lanka team will be led by L.P.S. Dhananjaya of Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa who will take part in the Long Jump and Triple Jump events.
His best performance in Long Jump is a jump of 7.61mts. and in the Triple Jump it is 15.98mts.
The other two athletes were Chamila Kumarasiri of D.S. Senanayake College Mirigama and Uditha Chandrasena of Maris Stella College, Negombo.
Chamila Kumarasiri too will take part in the Triple Jump and his best performance was a jump of 15.98mts while Chandrasena will compete in the 400mts hurdles with a best performance of 52.22secs.
Phillips Ranjith and Saman Kumara Gunawardene will accompany the team as the officials in the capacities of coach and manager.
