The Vijitha Central College girls athletic team won the overall girls championship at the Southern Province Athletic Championship held at the Uyanwatte Stadium. The Vijitha lasses were clear winners with a huge 133 points while Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda was placed second with 72 points and Rajapaksa Central College third with 46 points. Vijitha's Viduranga Sathsarani rewrote the record books by winning the 400 meter hurdle event for girls under 17 with a time of 67.84 seconds. While the Under-19 girls 4x400 relay quartet clocked 4 minutes 21.5 seconds to erase the 4 minute 23.7 second record held by Sangamitta Girls School Galle in 2001. The Vijitha Central Team comprised of Yasai Vidarshana, Piyumi Vasana, Kalpani Prasanthika, Yashika Sewwandi de Silva, Kaushalya Kannangara, Tharushi Hansika, Supipi Madushika, Saduni Chamathsara, Hansika Sewwandi, Viduranga Thathsarani, Thakshila Udayangani, Shashini Nimalsha Jayashani, Minuri Chathmini, Malshi Hasarangi, L.Y. Dulanji, Dilma Lakshi Sampath, Nimesha Pawani, Umesha Randi, Puja Divyanjali, Sapna Sonali, Sansi Shri Nirmani, Thakshila Udayangani, Sandali Bulegodarachchi, Dewmini Tharushika, M. Mariamma, Kalpani Prasanthika, Ayesha Madhubashini and Nisansala Lakmali.
