Reigning National Champion Thilini Hendahewa clinched the triple crown while Buwaneka Gunathilaka grabbed a double, at the annual Summer Season Badminton Championship 2017, held at the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Indoor Stadium.
Hendahewa (20) beat Kavidi Ishadika 21-16, 16-21, 21-16 in a thrilling Women's Open Singles Final, and then teamed up with the vanquished to defeat Hashini Ambalangoda and Dilmi Dias in the Women's Open Doubles Final.
Hendahewa tripled her medals tally when she teamed up with Sachin Dias to overcome Rajitha Dhahanayake and Nadeesha Gayanthi 18-21, 21-10, 21-10, in the Mixed Doubles Open Final.
Gunathilaka also showed impressive form to win the Men's Open Singles crown when he defeated Sachin Dias in a closely contested final.
The two Open Singles finalists then teamed up to win the Men's Open Doubles when they beat Imesh Hasaranga and Vibhavi Madhusha 21-8, 21-13 in the Final.
Over 485 Shuttlers were in action during the 6-day event, which had 615 matches and 26 events conducted.
The courts' surfaces were of rubber carpets for the first time, for the cold weather conditions.
This 20-year-old, high profile tournament was organised by the Central Province Badminton Association (CPBA), under the patronage of the Sri Lanka Badminton Association (SLBA) with the assistance of the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council.
