Cricket: Northamptonshire hires Seekkuge Prasanna NatWest T20 Blast

England's county side, Northamptonshire, has signed Sri Lanka allrounder Seekkuge Prasanna as one of their two overseas players for the upcoming NatWest Twenty20 Blast campaign according to international media reports. 

Prasanna, 30, will be Northamptonshire's second fiddle overseas player next to South Africa's Rory Kleinveldt, but his main role with the team will be in the upcoming NatWest Twenty20 Blast. 

According to reports Northamptonshire intends to make use of Prasanna in other competitions but depending on the availability of Kleinveldt, the team's main overseas player for 2016.

"We're delighted to have completed the signing of Seekkuge Prasanna for the coming season. He's an exciting cricketer with plenty of experience and good stats, and having him for the whole NatWest T20 Blast campaign is obviously a big plus for us. There's a chance we may also see him in other formats during the summer, " David Ripley, the head coach of Northamptonshire had told.

Prasanna, a useful allrounder who also opens bat at Sri Lanka's domestic tournaments, broke into has claimed 22 ODI wickets and three Twenty20 scalps for Sri Lanka. 

As a batsman he averages 11.00 with a strike rate of 137.50 appearing in six Twenty20s for his country. 

He has played 69 T20 games at domestic level and has claimed 54 wickets and made 768 runs his solitary half century of 52. 

Prasanna was part of Sri Lanka's tour to India where three T20 games were played but was dropped out of the ICC World T20 squad. 

Last week Somerset signed former Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene as their main overseas player for the NatWest T20 Blast campaign.
