Dharshana Prasad Fernando of the North Western Province attached to the Sri Lanka Navy and Punchali Sulochana of the Western Province won the respective Men’s and Women’s Racing Cycling titles at the 44th National Sports Festival held at Puttlam, on Saturday (19).
Both Fernando and Sulochana are national riders finished their marks in impressive times.
Fernando finished the 129kms distance in 3hrs 14mts and 07secs while Sulochana who rode 56kms finished passed her winning post in 1hr 39mts and 42secs.
Both events were flagged off near the Puttalam main junction.
The men’s event covered the cities of Kurunegala, Nikaweratiya, Anamaduwa, Padeniya, Wariyapola and back to Puttlam while the ladies run up to Anamaduwa and back.
The men’s runner-up came from the Southern Province – L.D. Nanayanapriya who finished distance in 3hrs 15mts and 55secs.
W.D. Pethum Sampath of North Central Province was the third and finished with a timing of 3hrs 16mts and 40secs.
In the first sprint the winner was Madushanka Fernando of the North Western Province.
The second sprint was taken by Pethum Sampath from the North Central Province.
The team championship went to the North Western Province; the second place went to North Western Province while the third place was taken by the Southern Province.
The Ladies team champion was Western Province while the runner up was North Western Province.
