A total of 88 sports stars who have brought honour and fame to the Sri Lanka Air Force with theiroutstanding performances were felicitated by the President Air force Sports Council and Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy during a ceremony held at SLAF Headquarters.
This felicitation ceremony was organized at the initiative of the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy in view of felicitating and encouraging sportsmen and women.
Leading Aircraftman Chamara Darmawardena who was placed 9th at the 73kg Judo event at the Rio Olympics 2016, Leading Aircraftwomen Rahubadda RKY and Liyanage CL, who bagged the runner-up award at the World Carrom Championship 2016 held in United Kingdom were presented with cash awards recon zing their exceptional contribution in the field of international sports.
The following SLAF teams who secured national Championships during the year 2016, were also felicitated.
Kabaddi (men), Tug-of-War (men), Volleyball (women), Weight Lifting (women), Wrestling (women), Beach Volleyball (men and women), Taekwondo (men and women) and SLAF Rugby Football team which has turned tables, even beating the champion Kandy SC at the on-going Dialogue Rugby League were also felicitated by the Commander in view of their outstanding achievements.
The Deputy Chief of staff, Air vice Marshal Mohan De Soyza and members of the Air Force Sports Council were also present at this occasion.
