In a lack luster final, where the bowlers dominated, Citizens Development Business lifted the Elephant House Lemonade Trophy , after narrowly beating Kanrich Finance 'B' by 2 wickets, in the 14th Ceylon Cold Stores PLC sponsored, MCA Division 'D' 40-over League Tournament 2017, concluded at the MCA grounds on Sunday (22).
Kanrich Finance 'B' sent into bat, shackled by the CDB’s varied attack of Shanil Perera (6.2-19- 4), Aravinda Akuragoda (5-8- 2) and Buddika de Silva (8-31- 2) was all out for a mere 113 runs in 31.2 overs.
It would have been a different story for Kanrich Finance 'B' if not for the gritty 4th wicket stand of 65 runs in 73 balls between Oshada Fernando (39) and Madawa Fonseka (38).
Bowlers continued to dominate as CDB had to huff and puff to reach their required target of 114 runs in 26.5 overs, losing 08 wickets.
The Kanrich Finance 'B' bowlers, Shiral Senaratne (7-19 -5) and Udith Madushan (6.5-39- 2) gave a torrid time to the CDB Batsmen with their intelligent bowling.
Opening batsman, Chathuranga Dikkumbura made a quick fire 33 runs in 36 balls hitting a six and 04 fours; but the match winner for CDB was No.8 batsman, Dhanushka Dharmasiri, who remaind unbeaten with 26 runs, in 28 balls with a six and a four.
Match Referee, Manoj Perera picked CDB’s bowler, Shanil Perera, as the Man of the Match.The other 03 special awards went to CDB’s, opening batsman, Chathuranga Dikkumbura, who picked up two awards (Best Batsman and Man of the Tournament) and the other by Aravinda Vithanarachchi from Expolanka Group (Best Bowler).
Dikkumbura finished with 336 runs in 07 innings, inclusive of 02 centuries. Vithanarachchi had a haul of 17 wickets for 156 runs.
