Sport

DIMO, the current Division ‘B’ runners-up spoilt the party for the Premier League and Knockout winner, MAS Active Trading from bagging an elusive triple crown.   DIMO, who made a late entry to the 23rd Singer-MCA Premier League T20 Super Tournament 2016, thanks to the sudden pullout of Seylan Bank, scored a heart stopping last ball, one-wicket win over the formidable, MAS Active Trading, in the quarter-finals on Wednesday (11) at the MCA ground.   The tournament then suddenly stopped on its tracks when the other three quarter-finals were abandoned without a ball being bowled at MCA and at De Soysa Park in Moratuwa.   The second quarter-final between MAS Unichela and John Keells at MCA/afternoon was decided on a toss of a coin that went in favour of MAS Unichela.   The third and fourth quarter-finals at Moratuwa between Sampath and HNB and Commercial Credit and Finance and Textured Jersey were also decided by the toss of a coin, with Sampath Bank and Textured Jersey calling correctly.   The two semi-final matches between DIMO and MAS Unichela and Sampath Bank and Textured Jersey which were scheduled to be played on Saturday (14) were postponed for Wednesday (18) and the finals to be played next Saturday (21).   All matches are to be played at the MCA ground which will bring the curtain down on the MCA Premier League 2016.   In the solitary quarter-final that the rain speared, DIMO chasing a victory target of 134 runs in 20 overs, needed four runs in the last ball.   MAS Trading, opening bowler Isuru Udana was hit for six by No.10 batsman, Pramoud Hettiwatte, thus sealing a memorable win for DIMO and a place in the semi-finals. MAS Active Trading 133 for 8 wickets (20) (Dhananjaya de Silva 20, Angelo Perera 30, Isuru Udana 18, Nisala Tharaka 2/21, Pulina Tharanga 2/41)   DIMO 139 for 9 wickets (20) (Lakkana Jayasekera 22, Charith Kumarasinghe 25, Lasith Abeyratne 16, Nipun Karunaratne 27, Isuru Udana 2/20, Charith Jayampathi 2/33, Dhananjaya de Silva 2/17)
