DIMO and Textured Jersey advanced to the final of the Emerald Ceylon Tea Cup, MCA Division ‘B’ 50-over League Tournament after overcoming their respective opponents in the semi-finals played last weekend. In the rain affected semi-finals on Sunday (1) and Monday (2), DIMO faced a no result against Mobitel and Textured Jersey easily overcame John Keells ‘B’ by six wickets. Both semi-finals which commenced on Sunday, got dragged onto the reserve day, Monday. The top half semi-final between DIMO and Mobitel at the MCA grounds did not materialize even on the second day, Sunday, as the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled and on Monday after a late start, it got washed out in the second session. According to the tournament rule, DIMO qualified for the final, as they held the higher position in the league table of points. At Katunayake, Textured Jersey managed to beat the rain on the reserve day on Sunday. Textured Jersey chasing a moderate John Keells ‘B’ total of 161 runs to win in 50 overs, faced only two deliveries when the heavens opened; the match continued on Monday from where it stopped on the original day and Textured Jersey reached their target with six wickets in hand and eight overs to spare. The final between DIMO and Textured Jersey will take place on Saturday (5) at the MCA grounds from 10.00am.
