Motor Racing: 6-Hour Endurance Race next Saturday

Sport

The second round of the Six-hour Endurance Championship 2015 is all set to create yet another fantastic karting showdown at the Sri Lanka Karting Circuit at Bandaragama next Saturday (8). The biggest of its kind, the Six-hour Endurance Championship is organised by Asian Motor Racing Club, Single Seater Formula Motorsports Association and Sri Lanka Karting Circuit, owned and managed by David Pieris Automobiles Ltd. and is expected to attract a large number of spectators and racing enthusiasts.   The first round of the Championship, held in March, was a resounding success and the fans got their fill of quality racing action at the 571-meter track built to international specifications. The thrills were provided by Sri Lanka’s best karting drivers as well as a team from India, led by Armaan Ebrahim, who also competes in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series, along with his team-mate, Sri Lanka’s most celebrated racing driver Dilantha Malagamuwa.   The Indian team also included Sandeep Kumar, Vishnu Prasad, Raghul Rangasamy and Anindith Reddy. However, the Lankan drivers proved too good for their Indian counterparts with Team Raptor Racing, comprising Aamir Ghaffoor, Taffy Alahakoon, Charith Gunawardena, Navindu Dewaka, S. Lahiru and Jacqueline Bocks taking the winner’s podium at the end of Round 1. They displayed superb coordination, great racing strategy, and planned their pit stops with exacting precision. This allowed them to record the most number of laps - 557 - during the Formula-One-style six-hour endurance race.   But the Indians are planning their retaliation and will be back to try and take the checkered flag in the second round.   It certainly has all the makings of a riveting day of racing for participants and spectators alike. Entries are now open and close on 4th August. Entry forms are available on the organisers’ Facebook page, www.facebook.com/slkarting and www.slkarting.com.
