Maliyadeva Balika MV, Kurunegala and Sri Lanka Army (SLA) emerged victorious in the Schools and Club segments of the Netball Carnival held to celebrate the 145th Anniversary of the Malay Cricket Club at Padang, Slave Island.
Rosy Senanayake was the Chief Guest at this tournament conducted on 6 courts, in which 12 School teams and 10 Club teams participated.
Trophies and handsome Cash awards were presented to the winners and runners-up.
Maliyadeva BMV Kurunegala clinched the Girls Championship in a hard fought battle defeating Holy Family Convent (HFC) Kurunegala 13-12, in a home-and-home final.
Maliyadeva BMV beat Girls High School Kandy 15-12 in the 1st semifinal, while HFC Kurunegala coasted to the finals overcoming Kolonnawa BMV 17-4.
In the Club tournament, SLA and Hatton National Bank (HNB), with equal points- 42.5, qualified for the final.
The final was a fast paced run-and-pass game, as experienced players from both the Army and HNB kept their respective Shooters busy.
The game swung from side to side right throughout, with SLA finally prevailing as winners.
