The day one proceedings of the 3rd Red Bull Ride My Wave surfing competition held at the Kabalana Beach in Ahangama saw Vladimir Merlis of Israel posting the highest wave score the heat of the day as well as the first tube ride event to take the lead on Saturday (10).
The event flagged off by Chandima Weerakkody, Minister of Petroleum and Petroleum Resources Development saw the participation of 64 surfers from 20 countries.
For some of the participants it was the first time and Kai Linder the surfing director for Red Bull Ride My Wave was impressed with the sportsmanship shown and the unity of the local surfers along with their international counterparts.
However very tough conditions the 64 surfers which competed in four heats on day one, the second day is expected to be good at the main break for the top 32 men who will battle out to claim the title of “King of the Wave” and the first ever ladies final which is also scheduled to be conducted.
The competition ends on Sunday (11).
