Tennis: Pakistan's Heera Ashiq remains unbeaten at 101 Colombo Championship

The 101st Colombo Championships since its first serve on July 13, have produced thrilling tennis encounters before coming to an end on Sunday (31) at the SLTA courts in Colombo. 

In the Men's Open Singles, the number three seeded Heera Ashiq of Pakistan maintaining his unbeaten record came on top against the number four seeded Nishangan Nadaraja in straight sets by 6-3, 6-3 , 6-2. 

The Pakistani with superb rallies and counter volleys stunned his opponent to prevail over him. 

In the Women's Open Singles, Nethmi Waduge the number one seeded player made short work of young talented player Anika Seneviratne 7-5, 6-3. 

Waduge, a national player, the most experienced player out of the two with her powerful serving unsettled Seneviratne in the two setter. 

This year's tournament indeed produced sparkling tennis and it was indeed a good exposure for the talented future Sri Lankan stars playing against the national and foreign players. 

The finals of Girls' and Boy's Under-12, 14, 16 Singles and Under-16 and 18 Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Men's Open Doubles and Men's Over-35 Doubles will be played on Sunday (31).

Boys Under-12 Singles final: Apna Perera (2) beat Akith Senaratne (1) 6-1, 6-3 

Boys Under-14 Singles final: Ashen Silva (1) beat Kavishka Ratnayake (3) 6-3, 6-1 

Boys Under-14 Doubles final: Luca-Emanuel Knese (6) / Isuru Peries beat Shivendra Perera (7) / Rakesh Rathnasingham 7-6 (4), 5-7, 10-4 

Boys Under-16 Singles final: Vibuda Wijebandara (1) beat Manal Algama (2) 6-1, 6-1   

Boys Under-18 Singles final: Aadavan Pushparaj (6) beat Udayachandran Srinath (7) 6-2, 6-3 

Wheelchair Singles final: D.S.R. Darmasena (2) beat N.R.L.S. Ranaweera (1) 1-6, 6-1, 11-9 

Wheelchair Doubles: D.S.R. Darmasena (1) / N.R.L.S. Ranaweera beat H.M.L. Senaratne (2) / W.P.J. Wijesiri 6-1, 6-2 

Men's Over-35 Singles final: Perumal Ganeshan beat Ramesh Abeywardena 6-0, 6-1 

Men's Over-35 Singles final: N.T.R. Dahanayake versus Sam Balasingh (To be played) 

Men's Over-55 Singles final: Ravi Subramaniam received a walk over from T.F. Hadji 

Men's Over-45 Doubles final: Chammika de Silva / Ganendran Subramanium beat Rohan Fernando / Sirimal Kannangara 6-0, 6-0
