Fourth seeded Sharmal Dissanayake recorded an upset win over fancied top seeded player Sanka Athukorala in the final to emerge champion of the 3rd Queen’s Open ‘A’ Grade Tennis Championship played at the Queens Club tennis court in Bauddaloka Mawatha, Colombo on Saturday (17). Sharmal came into the final having recorded another fine win over second seeded Dineshkanthan Thangarajah in the tough semi-final encounter played four days ago. The top seeded Sanka who was expected to prevail in a close tussle was way behind his true form as Sharmal rattled his opponent with the minimum of fuss with a three set to nil victory in the five set final. Meanwhile Medhira Samarasinghe who clinched the women’s open title went on to win a double when she partnered Sanka Athukorala to defeat the top seeded pair of Dineshkanthan Thangarajah and Amritha Muttiah to clinch the mixed double final. The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has interdicted Colombo Fort Magistrate Kosala Senadheera.
The Supreme Court today refused interim relief in an application filed by President’s Counsel Senaka Walgampaya seeking an Order from the Supreme Court compelling the President to appoint judges to fill the existing vacancies in the Court Of Appeal.
The deadline for online applications to the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) Examination has been extended until July 12, the Department of Examinations said.
