The inaugural Navy Open Triathlon Championship will be held at Dikowita and Uswetakeiyawa on November 1, Sri Lanka Navy announced. The event is scheduled to commence at 6.30am. The swimming event will be held at the Fisheries Harbour, Dikowita and the cycling and running events will be held along the Negombo Road. The organisers are calling for entries for this event which presents cash awards to the winners. Entries close on October 25. The men’s swimming event will be a 750 metres event, while women’s swimming event is 250 metres. The men’s cycling event will cover a distance of 20km and the event for women will cover a distance of 10km. The distance of the running event will be 5km for men and 3km for women. The winner of the men’s event will take away a cash award of Rs.100, 000. Rs.75, 000 and 50, 000 will be awarded to the first and second runners up respectively. There will be awards for the first ten positions. The winners of the women’s event will receive Rs.50, 000 for the first place, Rs.25,000 for the second place, Rs.15,000 for the third place and seven consolation prizes worth Rs.5,000 each. The first, second and third place winners of both men’s and women’s events will be awarded trophies in addition to cash awards.
