U-19 Cricket: Trinity, Thurstan, Isipathana and S. Thomas’ finish Division I group champions

The teams to qualify to the pre-quarter finals of the Under-19 Division I Inter-School Cricket Tournament were found with the completion of the first round of matches which came to an end last week.

The tournament was contested by 36 teams which were divided into four groups comprising of nine teams in each group.

Defending champions Trinity along with Thurstan, Isipathana and S. Thomas’ came out on top in their respective groups which was decided after the teams played their eight matches for the season.

Trinity topped Group ‘A’ with 149.50 points averaging 18.68 while Thurstan was the top team in Group ‘B’ with 129.09 points for an average of 16.01, Isipathana was on top in Group ‘C’ with 144.04 points averaging 18.00 and S. Thomas’ with 134.56 points with an average of 16.82 finish on top in Group ‘D.

The pre-quarter finals are scheduled to get underway from February 15 with the first game being between S. Thomas’ and De Mazenod due to be played at Mt Lavinia.

The other scheduled matches are: Trinity vs Zahira at Kandy, St Peter’s vs Gurukula MV Kelaniya at Bambalapitiya, Royal vs St. Aloysius Galle at Reid Avenue, Isipathana vs Nalanda at BRC, Thurstan vs St Servatius Matara at Thurstan ground, Ananda vs St Sebastian’s at Colombo and Richmond vs St. Joseph’s at Galle. 

Teams to qualify from the four groups are: 

Group ‘A’: Trinity, Ananda, St. Aloysius Galle and De Mazenod. 

Group ‘B’: Thurstan, Royal, St. Joseph’s and Zahira. 

Group ‘C’: Isipathana, Richmond, Gurukula MV Kelaniya and St Servatius Matara. 

Group ‘D’: S. Thomas’, St Peter’s, St Sebastian’s and Nalanda.
