U-20 Rugby: Milo Knockout semis this weekend

The semi-finals of the Milo Schools Under-20 Knockout Rugby Championship will get underway this Saturday (17) and Sunday (18) at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo. 

The all important President's Trophy semi-final between St. Joseph's College and Dharmaraja College will take place from 4.15pm on Saturday (17) while the second qualifier is set to be played on Sunday (18) between St. Peter's College and defending champs Isipathana College. 

Dharmaraja received a walkover from Royal College in the quarter-final stage while St. Joseph's beat Wesley College 43-29 in the first quarter-final. 

In the second quarter-final St. Peter's beat Trinity College by 38-24 while Isipathana overcame St. Anthony's College by 29-28 in the third qualifier. 

In the Premier Trophy Ananda, Thurstan, St. Benedict's and Maliyadeva Colleges reached the semi-final stage.

In the first quarter-final Ananda beat traditional rivals Nalanda by 55-21 while in the third qualifier St. Benedict's pipped out Richmond by 20-19. 

The fourth qualifier was won by Maliyadeva who thrashed St. Aloysius Galle by 54-0. 

Thurstan received a walkover from St. Sylvester's Kandy. 

In the semi-finals Ananda meet Thustran on Saturday (17) while St. Benedict's will take on Maliyadeva on Sunday (18).

Both matches will be played at 2.00pm prior to the President's Trophy semi-finals on both days. 

The Chairman's Trophy is now down to four teams -- St. Anne's Kurunegala, Moratu Vidyalaya, Thalduwa Buddhist School and Carey College. 

Thalduwa BS defeated Nugawela Central by 35-19 while St. Anne's overcame Vidyaloka Galle. 

Moratu Vidyalaya and Carey received walkovers from Royal Panadura and Rahula Kandy respectively. 

St. Anne's will meet Moratu Vidyalaya in the first semi-final at 10.00am on Saturday (17) while Thalduwa BS will meet Carey in the second game at the same time on Sunday (18). 

A total of 24 teams contested under three segments with eight teams in each category -- the President's, Premier and Chairman's trophies. 

After the semi-final stage this weekend, the finals of the Premier and Chairman's trophies will be played next Friday (23) at the Sugathadasa Stadium while the President's Trophy final will be played next Saturday (24) at the Racecourse ground after an exhibition game between two teams formed by former captains of the Knockout Championship winning teams of the past 25 years.
