A terrific second half rally gave Royal College a breathtaking 23-22 win over Trinity College in the first leg of the 71st Singer Brady Shield rugby encounter at the Pallekelle Stadium in Kandy today (9). Trinity led 12-10 at the breather. Trinity scored first when No.9 scored a try far left which was converted. Royal replied with a try and Trinity led 12-10 at the breather-10. Royal took control after the re-start with their forwards playing in exemplary fashion. Royal increased their lead to 15-12 and then 20-12 and then to 23-15. All this while Trinity struggled to keep the Royalists at bay, Royal’s power play had a telling effect on the Trinitians and subsequently they surged ahead at 23-22 and maintained the lead to romp home winners. The second leg will be played on Colombo on May 23 where Trinity are bound to have a tough time in containing the rampaging Royal forwards.
