Sri Lanka will bid to hold the Asian Challenge Cup Men’s Volleyball Tournament this year. The final decision will be on Monday (8) at the Asian Volleyball Confederation Board Meeting in Thailand.
Three countries including Sri Lanka are bidding to stage the event.
They are Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Thailand.
The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation is hopeful that the contest will be awarded to them.
The Asian Volleyball Confederation has decided to conduct the tournament from September 15 to 23.
Sri Lanka has made a request to fix the dates from September 17 to 23, said A.S. Nalaka, Secretary of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation.
Seven countries are scheduled to take part in the competition.
They are: Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Iraq.
According to A.S. Nalaka, Sri Lanka will have to spend Rs. 45 million rupees to stage the competition. Rs. 15 million will be received from the participating teams for food and accommodation.
The remaining Rs. 30 million will have to be raised by the host country Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation is hopeful of raising this amount from the Government and the private sector.
