‘Sankara’
competes in Cairo

Talented filmmaker Prasanna Jayakody's debut cinematic
venture 'Sankara' has received rave reviews selecting it for the
final round of the festival.

The film has been selected for the final round
of this year's Cairo International Film Festival.
'Sankara' is the first Sri Lankan entry to the
competitive section nearly after three decades. It was 'Ahasin Polowata'
(White Flowers for the Dead) directed by Dr. Lester James Peries
that represented Sri Lanka. Released in 1978 'Ahasin Polowata' won
the award 'Best Film of the Third World' at festival.

Started in 1976, the Cairo International Film
Festival is one of the 15 A Grade International Film Festival that
comes in line with other renowned names such as Cannes, Berlin,
Venice and Tokyo.
Award winning teledrama director, Prasanna Jayakody
completed the entire shooting on location in around Thanamalwila
area.
Young actors Thumindu Dodenthenna, Sachini Ayendra,
Nilusha Heenkendaarachchi and K. Milton Perera played in the pivotal
roles in 'Sankara'.
Scripted by Prasanna himself the technical crew
included Palitha Perera in the camera, Ravindra Guruge as editor,
Sunil Wijeratne as art director and Nadeeka Guruge directing the
original score. Ashoka Athaudahetti assisted Prasanna in the direction.
'Sankara' is ready to be released in EAP circuit
cinemas around the country.
