Kethumathi Neyo on ITN
'Kethumathi Neyo' depicting day to day characters
in our own society and their way of living is telecast every Saturday
at 8 pm on ITN channel.
Directed and produced by Lilantha Kumarasiri,
the 25 episode miniplay is a production of Teledrama Unit, ITN.
"Kethumathi Veediya' (Kethumathi Street) is
home for many. They represent a cross section of urban lower middle
class characters. The daily trials they face, the quarrels they
create and the struggle they make are central to this hilarious
yet serious set of episodes. They are stories of their day today
living. But for them each day is just another day and another ordinary
incident.
The small kiosk in Kethumathi Veediya run by Sissie,
a mother of two children is the central point for the miniplay.
The little house belonging to them is rented out to get an extra
income. Tenants come and go. The latest occupiers are the family
of Devananda and Asylin and their children. The story takes a twist
when a rift develops between the members of two families. This is
made more complex by the incidents created by the other characters
in the miniplay. Bandusena in the boutique, Sirinimal the garbage
collector, Kulawansa the security officer and Sissie's husband Samy
who is away from home and makes occasional visits contribute largely
to the development of the story.
Samy is a cheerful and helps those in need. He
helps Purnima whose boyfriend is Devinda the street singer. Meanwhile
Soba, Sissie's daughter who is worried about her delaying marriage
develops an interest on Devananda's son Akalanka. In the midst of
battle for love between the young couple and regular quarrels between
the two families 'Kethumathi Neyo' unfolds with humour and subtleties
of dwellers in Kethumathi Veediya.
