Good to see ‘Pradeepanjalee’ on DVD
Kasi Silva of Colombo writes.....
Though I regretted of the inability to be present at the live concert of Pradeep Ratnayake, I was delighted that he provided an opportunity for persons who were unable to attend the live concert, to watch his performance from their homes with the issue of a DVD.
Immediately the DVD was out for sale, I purchased a copy and the satisfaction I derived from the strings of his Sitar, with the other Sri Lanka's most talented instrumentalists accompanying him still haunts me from an expensively produced musical extravaganza.
Such a performance was possible because of the enlistment of the most talented and the reputed instrumentalist in our country numbering over thirty. Perhaps the best oriental instrumental concert by a Sri Lankan and the performance could have enthralled any audience and even a mute would have been captivated with his natural musicality as one of the most enjoyable concerts.
For sales of the DVD to increase more advertisements in newspapers are necessary with sales outlets all over the country including super markets.
Nanda Malini, Victor Ratnayake, Jagath Wickramasinghe and the latest of the Lionel Ranwala sold at a competitive price are only a few so far produced.
The Cultural Ministry should in collaboration with Rupavahini assist musicians and dancing troupes to produce DVD/VCDs at competitive prices to reach the vast majority who cannot afford high prices and also cannot attend concerts.
