A heart-felt appeal Maxis may use SLT as launching ....

Cuddling his mother, toddler Vimukthi Sasthrika, hides his face in her bosom and slowly peeps out mischievously, giving a wisp of a shy smile. Bare-bodied and only wearing a pair of shorts, the moment he turns, the eyes are drawn to something which is not right about his chest.

Global Telecommunications Holdings (GTH) chief Ananda Krishnan, who made history in Sri Lanka by purchasing 35.19 percent of Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) at Rs.32 billion, making it the single largest transaction of the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE), is seen using Sri Lanka as a launching pad to strengthen the company’s operations in India, reliable industry sources said. From the Caribbean Shores by Chaminda Vaas INTERNATIONAL | HARARE, Zimbabwe
We can do it again Zimbabwe plunged into poll war: MDC
As I write, we have just returned to our hotel rooms after an exciting second day’s play in the second test against the Windies at the picturesque Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad. It has been an extremely absorbing test match so far where the exchanges have been even. We have never played a test match at this venue before but this has been a happy hunting ground for us where we have won four of the five one-day .... Zimbabwe's opposition today accused President Robert Mugabe of deploying militias for a war to reverse the result of last weekend's election. Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leader Morgan Tsvangirai said Mugabe was “preparing a war on the people” and deploying loyal forces, including liberation war veterans, ahead of a presidential runoff vote.

This second Test in Trinidad, the home of calypso and carnival, is turning into a really closely-fought tussle. As I write, with two days finished, the game is on a knife-edge. By the time Sri Lanka wakes-up on Sunday morning, I hope that we will still be batting with a healthy lead already in the bank.
Youth Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was caught off guard last Saturday when a woman scribe asked him how "comfortable" he was being the cynosure of young women and being called prince charming. Blushing over the personal question, the 37-year-old bachelor politician told ......

When a star is born The Dry Zone losses its glory
Lights, camera and her laptop… This is probably the best way to describe Pooja Gauthami Umarshankar, the newly popular film actress. A familiar face in Sinhalese films these days, it's interesting to find out some of the lesser known facts about her. What is most interesting is that she was born in Sri Lan...
Gradually the dry zone turned into jungle land. The temples, palaces and all palatial buildings were ruined. Tanks, canals and bunds were destroyed. As this area was deserted, there is no mention of this area in any of the inscriptions of the period. The chronicles too remain silent about this period. Since 1215 AD, this area had gone into oblivion. It is the South-Western Wet Zone and the Malaya-rata that is spoken of...
