‘Pawani’, a mega teledrama revolving around a woman's lone battle against a powerful politicians telecast every weekday at 7.30 pm on Swarnavahini.
Directed by Ravindra Wijeratne, the teledrama is produced by Sandya Mendis for Susila Productions and it stars Jagath Chamila, Anjula Rajapaksa, Janak Premalal, Gangu Roshana, Susantha Chandramali, Manel Wanaguru, Dayadewa Edirisinghe, Sampath Sri Roshana and Udayanthi Nirushika in the stellar cast.
Pawani is a graduate who has successfully completed her university education. Kasun her lover too is graduated from the same university. Kasun loves boxing and he is a talented boxing -player. Son of powerful politician, Kasun loses his parents when he was young and he is brought up by Wanshanatha who is a minister in the ruling party.
Wanshanatha has ulterior motives in bringing up Kasun. It is to acquire wealth inherited by Kasun from his parents.
Resenting Kasun's attachment to Pawani, a girl from a middle class family, Wansanatha executes a plan to break their affair. He proposes Neha, his daughter to Kasun and he succeeds. Kasun who fails to go against his uncle marries Neha and goes abroad with the intention of getting away from Pawani. When he returns to Sri Lanka after some years, he finds that Pawani has become popular among the people. She enters politics and gradually becomes a challenge to Wansanatha.
Wansanatha this time tries to use Kasun to fight against her. He proposes Kasun to enter politics with the intention of making him Pawani's opponent. But Kasun does not like the idea and he decides to go back abroad. Wansanatha keeps Kasun journey a secret and gets down another person who looks alike Kasun using a plastic surgery on him and 'Pawani' takes a dramatic turn. What would happen to real Kasun? What is going to happen to Pawani with the presence of Kasun, look alike? What will happen to Pawani's future?
Kavinda Malaviarachchi, Asanka Sayakkara, Chathura Adikari, Suneth Warnasuriya and Lal Wasantha will write the scripts while camera is handled by Jayantha Ranasinghe and music by Kapila Pugalaracchi. Makeup director is Pushpakumara Bandara, Art director- Deepthi Mangalasoma and editor is Saman Ariyaratne.
