Our regrets to Jeevan Thiagarajah

 

By publishing a news item in The Sunday Times of 28 October, 2007 of a case filed in the Magistrate’s Court under the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act, the newspaper has infringed Clause 20 of the Act which prohibits such publication and thereby caused a statutory offence. The Sunday Times expresses its sincere regrets to Mr. Jeevan Thiagarajah, a social activist his children and associates if any pain of mind was caused by the publication of this news item.

Both parties agreed to come to a settlement when the case filed by Mr. Thiagarajah was taken up before the Colombo Additional Magistrate, Giyan Ranawaka.

Counsel for Mr. Thiagarajah, Anuruddha Perera told Court that they have filed evidence denying all charges referred to in this case no. 15971/6 against his client Mr. Thiagarajah under the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act.
