Dayananda’s folkplays at the Wendt
 

Two famous dramas of the late Dayananda Gunawardena, 'Nari Bena' and 'Jasaya saha Lenchina' will go on boards at the Lionel Wendt theatre on July 13 at 3. 30pm and 7.00 pm. Produced in lyrical Sinhala folk style, the ever popular "Nari Bena" staged over the last four decades and it continues to be acclaimed by viewers around the country.

The play 'Nari Bena' is based on two plays folk tales while 'Jasaya saha Lenchina' are influenced by of traditional Kolama. The late Dayananda Gunawardena believed that audiences in tropical and developing countries like Sri Lanka would appreciate simple forms of entertainment with comic relief.

These two dramas have amply proved this, providing amusement and relief to its audience and will continue to entertain both young and old from the beginning to the very end with side splitting laughter and awe in the years to come.

The cast includes Bandula Wijeweera, Neil Alles, Rodney Warnakula, Sarath Kulanga, Indika Ramanayake, Chaminda Prasad and Indika Jayasinghe with Ratnasheela Perera, Ferni Roshinee and Gayani Prabuddhika.

Music direction is by Ranjith Balasuriya. Chorus is led by Kanthi Jayawickrema and is supported by Kumara Liyanage, Anusha Peiris, Indika Jayasinghe, Sujani Nisanka and Shalika Liayanpathirana.
