Rain won’t go away: 2 deaths in Friday’s downpour

Six districts were affected by Friday night’s heavy rains with two deaths being reported and the Meteorological Department warning of more showers. According to the Disaster Management Centre the districts affected were Matale, Kegalle, Kalutara, Ratnapura, Galle and Matara.

One person died after a house collapsed in Matale while another was killed in floods in Warakapola.
Meanwhile Deputy Director of the Meteorology Department S.R. Jayasekare said although the current atmospheric disturbance would reduce in a few days, the usual south-west monsoon would bring more rain for a couple of weeks more.
