Sri Lanka's champion male choral outfit 'The Revelations' have done it again, winning a second Gold medal in as many weeks, this time in the 'Male Vocal Ensemble' category at the 5th World Choir Games held in Graz, Austria.
In addition to winning a second Gold, 'The Revelations' under the choral and artistic direction of Sanjeev Jayaratnam were also bestowed the title of 'Champion of the World Choir Games' in that category, having scored the highest marks among all the groups competing in that section.
A crowd of around 5,000 rose to their feet as the strains of 'Namo namo matha echoed around the vast 'Stadthalle' (city hall) in Graz. This is the first time ever that any choral outfit from Sri Lanka has won two category championships at the World Choir Games - the acclaimed musical equivalent of the Olympics. There were 28 categories in all.
Speaking to The Sunday Times from Austria, Ishan de Lanerolle, President of The Revelations said the group were jubilant at their triumph.
“We were up against stiff competition so we’re delighted we could bring honour to Sri Lanka,” he said, shortly before they were scheduled to perform at a Champions Concert on Saturday night.
