Sri Lankan hotelier wins accolades in the UK

Denzil Rajaratnam receiving the award

Sri Lankan-born Denzil Rajaratnam attached to the Holiday Inn London, made Sri Lanka proud, when he bagged the title '2007 General Manager of the Year' for United Kingdom and Ireland in a competition run by the Intercontinental Group.

The Holiday Inn London won three other awards in addition to this individual recognition. It bagged the 2007 Hotel of the Year (U.K.), Hotel of the Year (EMEA) and the Distribution Marketing awards. Attached to the Holiday Inn London - Brentford Lock, Rajaratnam was the toast of the entire hotel and many Sri Lankans domiciled in England.

He said it was a tremendous feat to be chosen for this award. "I was motivated and involved each member of my team and by having all staff on board we have achieved the 2007 Hotel of the Year Award, which would have not been possible without them. Involving my team has inspired them to achieve consistent results and strive to achieve even greater results over the coming years," he said.

Rajaratnam, a product of Sri Lanka's Hotel School, started his career at Hotel Lanka Oberoi, before settling down in the UK. He was instrumental in launching the Brentford Lock Holiday Inn project from its inception, where he displayed immense talent in his chosen field, according to colleagues.
He was also elected a Member of the Institute of Hospitality in 2006.
