Paramitha felicitated

'Paramitha', a series of one episodic miniplay based on Jathaka stories was commended at the Asgiri Maha Viharaya, Kandy. In a rare honor director Thusitha de Alwis, script writer Somaweera Senanayake and the sponsors were acclaimed for the service to the Buddhist literature.

The series with 100 stories of Pansiya Panas Jathaka which ran for nearly two years was felicitated at a function held under the patronage of Mahanayaka of Asgiri Chapter, Chief priest, Ven. Udugama Sri Buddha Rakkhitha Rathanapala thero with the participation of heads of the three chapters at Asgiri Maha Viharaya.

Script writer Somaweera Senanayake, director Thusitha de Silva, Dr. P. A. Kiriwandeniya, the man the behind the concept of the story series, People's Bank which sponsored and Chairman of the ITN channel, Anura Siriwardena were felicitated on the occasion.

This is the first time that a visual work of art was felicitated by the clergies of the Asgiriya Rajamaha Viharaya. The felicitation was organized by Ven. Yatiwaldeniya Ananda Thero, the chairman of Sri Lanka Youth Temperance Society.

"We are happy that we were able to make a series of teledramas that every family could enjoy together with their aesthetic and spiritual values specially at a time when the standard of the teledrama has deteriorated," said Thusitha speaking about his achievement.

"The felicitation gives encouragement and enthusiasim to do more dramas of similar quality," he added.
Through 'Paramitha' a single episode story based on Lord Buddha was telecast every week through out the two years in focus and the stories were written by monks 700 years ago during the Dambadeniya era.
Representing different generations of artistes in Sri Lankan teledrama, 'Paramitha' was star studded by Henry Jayasena, Iranganie Serasinghe, Wijayaratne Warakagoda, Cyril Wickremage, Suminda Sirisena, G. R. Perera, Janaka Kumbukge, Nihal Fernando, Roshan Pilapitiya, Victor Ramanayake, Meena Kumari, Cletus Mendis, Kanchan Mendis, Bimal Jayakody and Rebecca Nirmalee.

The technical crew behind the drama was D. K. Leonard and G. Nandasena handling the camera, art direction Rohan Hewavitharana, Bathiya Dunusinghe and Chathurika Fonseka in editing, makeup Tharanga Rukmalwala and Rohana Weerasinghe directing the music. The series was sponsored by People's Bank.
