Colours of Graduation

‘Ramini Arseculatratne International Academy’ held its second convocation ceremony recently at the Cinnamon Grand with much pomp and pageantry. 25 students, who followed a two year course in professional Beauty therapy and Hair dressing, received their cosmetology license, and 16 other students who followed a course in Professional Hair Dressing for 6 months, received their diploma as well.

Ramini Arseculatratne International Academy has been in the forefront of the Vocational Training Industry continuously during the past eighteen years, providing education to students from all over the island in many fields such as Beauty, Hair, Arts and Crafts and with all former students has a coterie of over 3000 students.

Like many people who have reached the top in their respective careers, Ramani also had a slow and steady start. She started her teaching career at St. Mary's Church Hall - Dehiwela and subsequently at St. Lawrance Church Hall, Wellawatte. Later in Bambalapitiya, giving students all the learning facilities and modern machinery to train on.Recollecting the history of Vocational Education in Sri Lanka, there were only a few individuals who offered training in the fields of Beauty, Hair and Arts and Crafts. Ramani made use of her inborn talents coupled with the training she received at various International Schools to start with her own training institute, by way of providing training in various vocational fields, thus creating an opportunity to share the knowledge with other Sri Lankan women and help them to earn their living.

Due to her very professional and correct approach, sound knowledge on each subject, combined with her teaching skills, Ramani has earned both, local and International recognition for the great service she provides.

Her services have provided many job opportunities to thousands of people in this country and helped many women in all parts and corners of Sri Lanka to earn their living by utilizing what they have learned under her guidance, at her Academy.

She has received many awards and recognition for her services provided at various levels. Ramani has had the rare privilege to be invited to conduct several workshops on many occasions all over the globe such as UK, USA (New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas), Canada (Toronto & Ottawa), Abu Dhabi and Dubai and Singapore.

Recognizing her contribution to society at large, Ramani is the only member selected from the Vocational Training Industry to represent Sri Lanka in the Commonwealth Study Conference held in Canada back in 1996.

After the Convocation ceremony, there was a fashion show that was held to showcase the creative talents of the graduating students. The show was choreographed by Graham Hatch and the dresses were provided by Michael Wijesuriya, Ruchra Silva of Rebel, Symposium (Pvt) Ltd, and Mondy's Clothing store.

There were six modelling segments in all: Designer saris by Michael, Evening wear by Ruchira, Bridal segment by Sareeta, Fantasy dressings and summer wear. Hair and Make-up for the entire show was done by the students of Ramani Arsecularatne International Academy.
