‘Ammawarune’ in Australia

A number of special screenings for ‘Ammawarune’ (Elegy for a Mother), the latest direction by country's pioneering filmmaker Dr. Lester James Peries will be held in Australia and New Zealand.

On a special request by the Australian audience, the film screening is organized by Sinhala Kala Kavaya (Sinhala Art Council) in Australia and it will be screened at theatres in Sydney and Melbourne and a few cities in New Zealand.

An emotional tale centering on a strong relationship between a mother and a son, who takes up robes. Their relationship gets more complex with the new developments and the film ends on a tragic note.
Scripted by veteran script writer Somaweera Senanayake, the main roles are played by Malani Fonseka, Roshan Pilapitiya, Gayani Gishanthika, Palitha Silva, Sanath Gunatilake, Tony Ranasinghe, Daya Tennakoon, Ashoka de Zoysa, Manjula Kumari, Sarath Kotalawela, Ranjith Rubasinghe and child actor Thasriq Ameen.

Producer Jagath Wijenayake and one of the actors Ashoka de Soyza are to be participants for the screenings.
